The Lithops Research & Conservation Foundation (LRCF) conducts structured biological, ecological and conservation research on the genus Lithops, with particular emphasis on the naturally occurring taxa of Namibia. Scientific research undertaken by the LRCF is directed towards improving the understanding, taxonomy, ecology and long-term conservation of the genus through field-based investigations and scientifically documented conservation programmes.

Research undertaken by the LRCF combines long-term field monitoring, population studies, habitat assessment and practical conservation action. Every project follows clearly defined scientific objectives and is documented through formal project papers, technical reports and scientific publications. A central objective of the LRCF is the conservation and re-establishment of viable populations of threatened Lithops taxa within their natural habitats in Namibia. All reintroduction projects are based on sound scientific principles, ecological suitability and long-term monitoring following establishment.

This work includes the cultivation of genetically verified Lithops plants, ecological evaluation of suitable habitats, careful site selection and scientifically managed reintroduction into natural populations. Long-term monitoring is undertaken to evaluate establishment success, habitat stability and population development.

In addition to species-specific projects, the LRCF undertakes extensive colony-level monitoring throughout Namibia. As many naturally occurring Lithops colonies as possible are visited, photographed and scientifically documented. These long-term data sets provide valuable information on distribution, population dynamics, ecological change and conservation priorities.

Every research programme undertaken by the LRCF is documented through formal project papers and scientific publications.
